A fistfight broke out in Turkey's Grand National Assembly during the swearing-in ceremony of the new justice and interior ministers.

Tensions began when CHP deputies occupied the podium to prevent the swearing-in of Akın Gürlek, appointed Minister of Justice.

AKP deputies approached the podium, leading the situation to a physical clash between the parties.

The Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, Bekir Bozdağ, was forced to suspend the session due to the chaos, foreign media wrote, according to Telegrafi.

During the incident, CHP deputy Mahmut Tanal was injured in the nose and was taken to Parliament Hospital.

The CHP opposed Gürlek's appointment, raising doubts about the procedure and his status as a former chief prosecutor.

However, after the session was adjourned, Gürlek managed to take his oath, while the political debate between the opposition and the government deepened even further.

According to reports, Akın Gürlek, the new Justice Minister in the AKP government, is known for managing legal proceedings against the main opposition party, the CHP; for example, the Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, Ekrem İmamoğlu, was reportedly arrested as a result of investigations conducted by Gürlek. /Telegrafi/
