A fire broke out on the USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78) today, which has since been extinguished.

Two sailors have received minor injuries, while the ship, according to initial information, continues to be fully operational.

The Naval Sea Systems Command regional maintenance center is preparing to provide support to the fleet.

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) has published an announcement on the social network X.

"Aboard USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78) on March 12, a fire broke out in the ship's main laundry. The cause is not combat-related and the fire has been contained. There is no damage to the propulsion system, and the ship remains fully operational. Two sailors are receiving medical attention for non-life-threatening injuries and are in stable condition. We will release more information as it becomes available," the statement said.

According to data from ship tracking services, the Ford has been operating in the northern part of the Red Sea, off the coast of the Saudi city of Al Wajh, since Wednesday.

The aircraft carrier and its three accompanying ships – the destroyers USS Mahan (DDG-72), USS Bainbridge (DDG-96) and USS Winston S. Churchill (DDG-81) – transited the Suez Canal last week.

The Ford aircraft carrier strike group is participating in Operation Epic Wrath, a joint US-Israeli military campaign against Iran, which is now in its second week. /Telegraph/
