Goodbye diesel, the first hydrogen trucks from Hyundai arrive in Switzerland

Hyundai's first batch of seven cell-supported XCIENT hydrogen fuel trucks have been delivered to customers in Switzerland today, kicking off the company's plan to deliver 1,600 such zero-emission vehicles by 2025.

This is the result of a joint venture between Hyundai Hydrogen Mobility (HHM) and Swiss firm H2 Energy. 50 of them will be on the road by the end of this year, Telegrafi reports.

Reuters reports that commercial customers based in Switzerland will lease the trucks from HHM to transport goods across the country and will be supported by the newly erected hydrogen charging station infrastructure.

XCIENT trucks manage around 400 km, thanks to a 350 bar 32 kg hydrogen tank. Hyundai says these vehicles can be fully recharged in 8-20 minutes.

The idea behind this project is to replace diesel trucks in markets aiming to reduce the use of fossil fuels, so it will be worth following Hyundai and others in this space across Europe to see how it fares. to go over the next few years.

Toyota also made news earlier this week after announcing its plan to build a fuel-efficient truck for North America, with the goal of presenting a prototype within the first half of 2021. /Telegraph/
