The Government Commission on Missing Persons (GCMMP) has announced that today, on 04.03.2026, exploratory excavations have resumed at the "Përzhina" location in Rahovec.

According to the announcement, during these excavations, mortal remains were discovered and sent for examination to the Institute of Forensic Medicine.

"During the excavations carried out today, mortal remains were found, which were exhumed and sent for examination to the Institute of Forensic Medicine, in accordance with legal procedures and forensic standards. The exact number of individuals and their identities will be confirmed only after the completion of the relevant forensic analyses," the announcement states.

The CQPZH has announced that during the activities carried out in December 2025, appraisal excavations were carried out in only one sector or area of the area of interest, during which the mortal remains of two individuals were exhumed, and several bone fragments were found.

Meanwhile, according to this commission, due to weather conditions and several operational factors, as well as considering the large area that requires verification and review of additional information, works at this location were temporarily suspended.

"In accordance with the plans and after creating the conditions for the continuation of activities, teams of competent institutions, namely the forensic teams of the Institute of Forensic Medicine, including EULEX experts, with the support of the Government Commission for Missing Persons and the Police Directorate for the Investigation of War Crimes - Missing Persons Sector, in implementation of the order for exhumation, autopsy and identification issued by the Basic Court in Pristina, have returned to this location to continue excavations and verifications on the ground," the announcement states.

Excavations according to the GCPZH are being carried out according to planning and inter-institutional coordination between the Government Commission for Missing Persons, the Police Directorate for the Investigation of War Crimes, the Institute of Forensic Medicine, as well as the justice bodies.

The Commission says it will continue with full dedication its research and assessment activities in the field, with the aim of shedding light on the fate and whereabouts of persons forcibly disappeared during the war in Kosovo, informing the public opinion in a regular and transparent manner, with particular sensitivity towards the families of missing persons.
