Erdogan hopes the Syrian rebels will continue to advance, but raises the alarm about something

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said he hopes Syrian rebels will continue their advance against President Bashar al-Assad's forces in Syria, but expressed concern about what he referred to as terrorist organizations.

Erdogan said he was closely following the situation in the Syrian capital.

But he suggested he had mixed feelings, given some of the forces involved.

"The target is Damascus", Erdogan said.

"I would say that we hope that this advancement will continue without any problems", he added, he writes Reuters.

"However, while this resistance there with terrorist organizations continues, we had appealed to Assad," the Turkish president continued, referring to his approaches to Assad earlier this year to meet and normalize ties after more than a decade of enmity. .

"These problematic developments that continue as a whole in the region are not in the way we want, our heart does not want these. Unfortunately, the region is in a deadlock," Erdogan said without giving details.

His comments are said to have highlighted the complex makeup of the rebel forces fighting Assad and the mixed loyalties among actors on the ground, including Turkey.

Ankara has for years backed Syrian opposition forces seeking to topple Assad backed by Iran and Russia, but also views several regional players as terrorists, including Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), the former Islamist offshoot of Al- Qaeda, which is part of the rebel force.

Otherwise, Turkey has said that it had no involvement in the operation and that it did not offer support to the rebels.

She has repeatedly stated that Assad should engage in talks with the Syrian people for a political solution and that Ankara does not want to see a new wave of migrants fleeing the violence. /Telegraph/
