Elton John sues DailyMail publisher, claims his phone was hacked and his privacy was violated

Elton John said during his testimony at the High Court in London that he was furious when he learned of allegations that his landline phones had been tapped on behalf of Dailymail.
He stated that the actions of Dailymail fell outside the most basic standards of human decency. John sued Associated Newspapers, the publisher of Dailymail, for alleged privacy violations along with his husband David Furnish, Prince Harry and four others.
Associated Press has denied allegations of wiretapping and other violations and claims that its newspaper articles are based on information that is already publicly available or obtained from legitimate sources, such as news from celebrities' social circles.

John, who appeared via video, said he only learned of the Mail's alleged irregularities when his close friend, actress Elizabeth Hurley, who is also one of the plaintiffs, told him. Hurley was informed by a private investigator that John's landline phones were tapped while she was staying with him shortly after the birth of her son.
The private prosecutor's testimony is one of the main disputed issues in this case, because after giving a statement to prosecutors, he has now retracted that statement and cast doubt on its veracity.
"When we realized the seriousness of what had happened, we were outraged," he said.
John states that while Hurley was staying with him, three of his landlines were hacked. /Telegraph/
