Fans have been left in complete shock after a video of striker Jhon Duran being sent off while playing for Al Nassr went viral online.

In what was arguably the most shocking transfer of the winter transfer window, striker Duran joined Saudi Super League club Al Nassr last month from Adton Villa.

The Saudi club reportedly paid over 70 million euros plus bonuses for the Colombian international, who is said to earn a whopping salary of 20 million euros per year.

But in just his fourth game playing for Al Nassr, Duran was given a red card and football fans can't believe the reason why.

On Friday afternoon, Al Nassr suffered a shocking 3-2 home defeat to Al Ettifaq and the biggest moment of the match came in the 92nd minute as Duran was shown a straight red card after an altercation with an opponent.

Making his disappointment known at the result, the striker hit or rather patted Al Ettifaq midfielder Abdulelah Almalki on the back of the head, causing the 30-year-old to fall to the ground and call out to the referee, who was forced to show Duran a red card.

Immediately after Duran was sent off for the incident, club captain Cristiano Ronaldo approached the referee to angrily let him know what he thought of the decision, but it was too late.

In a sign of revolt, the Portuguese star lost control by kicking the ball hard towards the stands, but escaped unpunished.

The 21-year-old will now miss Al Nassr's next three matches, dealing a major blow to the club's title hopes. /Telegraph/
