Dugolli: Secret ballot for the election of the Speaker of the Parliament of Kosovo is very democratic

Former Vetëvendosje Movement MP, Enver Dugolli, has stated that the secret ballot for the election of the Speaker of the Parliament of Kosovo is very democratic.

According to Dugolli, in the case of secret voting, political party MPs reserve the right to judge for themselves regardless of the beliefs and positions of the political party.

This statement by Dugolli comes after political parties are not voting for Albulena Haxhiu, the candidate proposed by the Vetëvendosje Movement for Speaker of Parliament.

"As long as Vetëvendosje has the exclusive right to propose a candidate for the election of the Speaker of Parliament, this is non-negotiable... I would say that the most important decisions should be by secret ballot," Dugolli said on the show "KallxoPërnime."

Kreshnik Gashi reacted to Dugolli's position that the secret ballot for the election of the speaker of parliament is democratic, saying that it should be known which MP is voting for and which against.

"Secret voting should only be for emergency situations, because MPs represent interests," said Gashi.

Dugolli also stated that any agreement that will be made to form the Government will be transparent.

Dugolli also spoke about the Democratic League of Kosovo's refusal to cooperate with the LVV.

“[LDK] is the third party [in the parliamentary election results]. The first party is the Vetëvendosje Movement, which has taken the first step,” Dugolli said.

Meanwhile, regarding the statement by the acting Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, on public television that the Social Democratic Initiative is a sister party of the LVV, Dugolli said that this is not a surprise, as both parties belong to the Social Democracy group.

"The Prime Minister has said yes, this is true, because the Social Democratic Initiative has a non-right-wing program... This is a plus, when a political party adapts to a program, because the left-wing policies of Social Democracy are unique, it does not choose or add something at will," said Dugolli.

Milazim Koci, journalist, said that this closeness declared by LVV to the Social Democratic Initiative was not natural.

"The same thing happened with other parties when they were in power, meaning they declared themselves right-wing, and they pursued policies that were unrelated," said Koci.

The constitutive session of the Assembly opened on 15.04.2025 and has not been able to close since that date. The failure for the 20th time occurred on 23.05.2025.

The process has stalled in the election of the Speaker of the Assembly, where the Democratic Party of Kosovo, the Democratic League of Kosovo and the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo have declared that they do not have votes for the candidate proposed for this position by the Vetëvendosje Movement, Albulena Haxhiu.

Meanwhile, the Constitutional Court has not yet issued an opinion regarding AAK's request to assess the constitutionality of the proposal for the formation of the Secret Ballot Committee for the Election of the Speaker of the Parliament of Kosovo. /Kallxo.com/
