Driving schools became more expensive by 35%, registration for a category B driver's license reached 33 thousand denars

Young people who want to get a driver's license will have to pay 8.500 denars more, or 35% more. Driving schools have increased the price of training, so for category B, from 24.500 denars, it now reaches 33.000 denars. The driving schools we contacted say that they had to take this step due to the increase in costs, as the price had not changed for ten years.
"Prices increased from 01.11. They had not increased for 10 years. Mainly due to inflation, life became more expensive, it was no longer possible to live at those prices. Roughly, prices increased by 8.500 denars, from 24.500 to 33.000," said Aleksandar Stefanovski, the owner of the driving school.
The works, licenses and supervision of driving schools are under the competence of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. But the decision to increase prices was taken by all the owners of driving schools unanimously at a meeting. 15 years ago, the minimum price was set by the state at 19.300 denars. After 10 years, it increased to 24.500, and now it reaches 33.000 denars.
"We were regulated, we got the lowest price 15 years ago from the state, then we increased it ourselves, because it could no longer be maintained. Things were different 15 years ago, different 10 years ago. Oil went up, expenses went up," Stefanovski further explains.
The Ministry of Interior tells TV21 that there is a regulation that determines the minimum price, adopted in 2016, and has not been changed since then.
The price includes 20 hours of theoretical lessons, which now cost 4.500 denars, and 36 hours of practical driving, which now cost 28.500 denars. In addition, future drivers must pay 1.500 denars for the use of the driving school's vehicle for the first and second practical exam. An additional hour of driving costs 1.000 denars. In addition to these costs, a medical certificate of 1.200 denars is also required. The driving range and city driving each cost over 2.000 denars, and the costs increase depending on the number of failed attempts of the candidates. /TV21/
