Les O'Donnell, 70, from England, was fined around €260 by the local council for "throwing a cigarette" out of his car window.

He says the police officer misunderstood him, as he had simply coughed and thrown out "runny nose" from his hand.

The pensioner had been traveling after a doctor's visit and didn't have a towel to clean his nose.

He appealed the fine, but the council rejected the appeal based solely on the officer's statement.

Les says he has never littered and is willing to go to court to defend himself.

He also criticizes that many others throw away cigarettes with impunity, while he is being fined for a misunderstanding. /Telegrafi/
