A Florida animal shelter has reunited a missing dog with his family more than 10 years after he disappeared from home.

Miami-Dade Animal Services said a dog was brought to the shelter earlier this month and scanned for a microchip.

The chip identified the dog as Buttercup, a pet that had been missing for more than 10 years.

The microchip allowed shelter workers to contact the dog's owners and facilitate a reunion.

"Moments like this remind us why microchipping matters," the post says.

"A microchip is only as good as the information attached to it. Keeping your contact details up to date can make the difference between a lost pet remaining lost and a happy reunion like Buttercup's," he adds. /Telegraph/
