Then the cameras turned off, as the 'real' talks began in Istanbul.

Meanwhile, according to a Ukrainian diplomatic source, securing a ceasefire will be a top priority, adding that there is also a need for "confidence-building measures."

According to Reuters, the head of the Ukrainian delegation has stated that peace is only possible if Russia accepts a 30-day ceasefire, the return of all abducted children and an exchange of prisoners of war on an "all for all" basis.

"We understand that for any diplomacy to be successful, there must be a ceasefire - real, sustainable and well-monitored," the Ukrainian source added.

“There should also be humanitarian confidence-building measures, such as the return of Ukrainian children, detained civilians, and the exchange of prisoners of war on the principle of ‘all for all.’”

Otherwise, the delegations of both countries are expected to present their priorities during the meeting in Istanbul. /Telegraph/
