Diego Simeone left everyone speechless with the question he asked at the press conference

Diego Simeone left everyone speechless during his press conference after Atletico Madrid's controversial elimination from the Champions League.

On Wednesday night, Atletico's dream of winning Europe's biggest club competition turned into a terrifying nightmare as they suffered a painful penalty shootout defeat to Real Madrid.

Conor Gallagher's goal within the first minute was enough to tie the score on aggregate and send the match to penalties.

During the penalty shootout, there was an extremely controversial moment as Julian Alvarez saw his shot disallowed by VAR after it was judged that he had contacted the ball twice.

Ultimately, Real advanced to the quarter-finals after winning 4-2 on penalties, with Antonio Rudiger scoring the winning penalty.

Many angles of the incident have since circulated on social media, with some of them showing the touch from Alvarez's left foot.

After the match, Simeone was asked to comment on the incident during his press conference.

However, in true style, he turned his attention back to the reporters as he asked: "If anyone here has seen Julian touch the ball twice, raise your hand. Come on… no? Nobody?"

Simeone added: "I just saw the image of the penalty. The referee said that when Julian stepped and kicked, he touched the ball with his foot, but the ball didn't move."

"This is something to discuss whether it was a goal or not, but I am proud of my players."

He continued: "When you put your foot down and kick, the ball doesn't move a bit."

"But if VAR has decided it, I've never seen a penalty decided by VAR, but it's still valid, and they will have seen that he touched it. I want to believe that they will have seen that he touched it," El Cholo further emphasized.

Atletico are back in La Liga action this weekend when they face Barcelona at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano on Sunday night. /Telegraph/
