Dibrani: Prisoners from Denmark expected to be settled in Gjilan in April 2027

The Director of the Kosovo Correctional Service (KKS), Ismail Dibrani, has stated that the correctional institutions in the country are in the final phase of preparations for the implementation of the agreement between Kosovo and Denmark for the use of the Gjilan Prison by the Danish state.
On Debat Plus, Dibrani announced that the first phase of training for correctional staff has already been completed, while another group is expected to be sent for training in Denmark, in accordance with the system and rules of operation of Danish prisons.
He emphasized that the management of the prison in Gjilan will be carried out through co-governance between Kosovo and Denmark.
According to him, about 220 correctional officers will be from Kosovo, while the rest of the staff will consist of Danish personnel.
"We are in the final phase. The first group of staff training has already been completed. It is expected that the next group will begin training in Denmark, according to the Danish system and house rules there. And so April 2027 will be the month when the first prisoners are expected to be placed. There will be a co-government, 220 correctional officers will be Kosovars, the rest of the staff will be Danish. The governor will be Danish, the director will be Albanian," said Dibrani.
