Despite the ban – Pristina Municipality resumes works on “George Bush” Square

The Municipality of Pristina has resumed work on "George Bush" Square today, despite the ban imposed by the Cultural Heritage Inspectorate.

The Mayor of Pristina himself, Përparim Rama, was present at the launch of these works, as well as officials from the Kosovo Police.

We recall that the works in this square have been stopped twice in a row by the Cultural Heritage Inspectorate, while the Municipality has been requested to complete the permit application from the Kosovo Institute for the Protection of Monuments (IKMM).

The Municipality's project of 18.4 million euros has not been approved by the cultural heritage bodies.

About a month ago, the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MKYS) announced that official signs had been placed prohibiting work on "George Bush" Street in Pristina, due to unauthorized interventions in a protected cultural heritage area.

According to the MCYS, the Inspectorate for Cultural Heritage has received information about works in this area, which is located within the Historic Center of Pristina.

After verifications by the Prishtina Regional Technical and Construction Commission and the Institute of Municipalities of Kosovo, it was found that the Municipality of Prishtina and its relevant directorates did not request permission to carry out these works, as required by law. /Telegraph/
