Demand for health treatment in thermal baths on the rise

Demand for health treatment at rehabilitation centers with thermal water springs has increased significantly over the past year. Doctors at the Rehabilitation Center in Kllokot and those in Banja i Peja say that the natural thermal water springs have healing properties for many diseases, especially orthopedic ones.
The thermal water source in the village of Kllokot in the municipality of Viti is carried inside the rehabilitation center and is used for the treatment of various diseases. The doctor who started his profession at this center and is continuing his work even after retirement, says that this water has healing powers that in many cases can replace medications.
"There is a lack of health education not only among the population but also among health personnel, some of them have no knowledge of how such a bath can affect them, they burden patients with so much medication, while the effects of this water and the treatment here have no indications, except that the doctor who provides the therapy must be careful about the health condition of that patient's organization," said Shasivar Musliu, a specialist physiatrist.
According to the owner of the Kllokot Spa, similar values of this water have been found in several other European countries.
"According to the assessment given by experts from the former Yugoslav state, similar baths exist in the Czech Republic and Russia. In the West, baths are used more during the winter than the summer, here it is different," said Nezir Rexhepi.
Another important source of thermal waters is located in Banja i Peja. According to doctors, this water has special healing properties, especially for skin health problems.
"The characteristic of this water is more for vascular diseases, i.e. also for post-traumatic, neurological, gynecological, urological diseases, etc., but also for skin diseases it is characteristic that the sulfur content has a very good effect on the skin", said Dr. Hyrije Blakaj, physiatrist specialist.
In addition to Kllokot and Banja e Peja, a thermal water source also exists in Banjska i Mitrovica, but this complex has not been restored to service for citizens since 2000.
Doctors at rehabilitation centers estimate that natural thermal water resources constitute an important health asset for Kosovo, which has not yet been utilized to its full potential./RTK
