Darwin Nunez appears to have sent a message to Al Hilal's owners during their Asian Champions League clash against Al Wahda, just days after being excluded from the list of players eligible to appear in the championship.

Following the arrival of Karim Benzema in January, Nunez was dropped from Al Hilal's squad for the second half of the league season.

Arab clubs are only allowed to register eight foreign players born before 2003 in their 25-man squads, and Nunez, who joined from Liverpool last summer for €46m plus bonuses, was excluded along with former Arsenal defender Pablo Mari.

"The decision was difficult, but that's the job of a coach. He makes a lot of decisions every day, even in every training session."

"Nunez and Pablo are good players. I want to have them in all competitions, but we know the restrictions on registering foreign players," Inzaghi declared.

Nunez has yet to make a public statement about his expulsion, but his reaction was strong on Monday night, when he scored twice in a 2-1 win against Al Wahda in the Asian Champions League.

After scoring the second goal, Nunez turned and looked ironically towards where the Al Hilal owner was standing.

With a slight smile, he held the gaze for a few seconds before turning his head and saying something to himself.

It is not known what Nunez said, but his silent celebration has caused much discussion.

The Uruguayan international, who has scored nine goals in 24 appearances this season, reportedly earns €20m a year at Al Hilal, which translates to €400 a week.Telegrafi/
