Darwin Nunez is banned for five matches due to ugly scenes in the Copa América

Darwin Nunez has been banned for five matches by CONMEBOL after throwing himself into the crowd during a brawl between Uruguay and Colombia fans.

Tottenham's Rodrigo Bentancur has also been banned for four matches, but neither suspension will affect their eligibility at club level.

The ugly scenes unfolded after Nunez's Uruguay side lost 1-0 in their Copa America semi-final.

It is understood that Liverpool striker Nunez climbed into the stands in an attempt to protect his family.

He also tried to throw a folding chair, but a security guard intervened to ensure he didn't hit anyone.
