Tensions flared on Monday outside Nikos Kazantzakis International Airport in Heraklion, Crete, as protesting farmers and herders attempted to block the main entrance.

The demonstrators had set off from the city's Pankritio stadium in a convoy of tractors, aiming to reach the airport as part of escalating nationwide protests over subsidy delays and rising production costs.

Police had cordoned off the entrance roads to the terminal, preventing the convoy from reaching the airport premises.

And clashes erupted when protesters pushed forward, prompting police to use tear gas and "stun grenades."
