This action has sparked an atmosphere of tension and dissatisfaction, with Istanbul University students mobilizing to express their protest against this political development, which they considered an attempt to curb the opposition.

The police have cracked down on the students, using force to disperse them, but the determined students have not surrendered.

They crossed the barricade set up by the police and continued their march towards the city center, demanding the release of İmamoğlu and the punishment of those who, according to them, are violating democratic rights.

Following their statements, students have set off from Istanbul University towards Saraçhane, seeking support and expressing dissatisfaction with the authorities' decision.

The protest has attracted media attention and has also received support from other opposition groups, who see Imamoglu's arrest as a threat to democracy and the freedoms of Turkish citizens.

Otherwise, Imamoglu was seen as a serious opposition candidate for president of Turkey, namely a rival to Recep Tayyip Erdogan. /Telegraph/
