Change of command in KFOR, Major General Barduani tells personal story: As a soldier, I am fully aware that war always leaves deep wounds

Italian Army Major General Enrico Barduani, in his final speech as KFOR commander in Kosovo, said that the security situation has improved significantly, but stressed that there are still concerns due to several unresolved issues.
According to him, the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia is a framework to resolve open issues.
At the end of his speech, Barduani recounted a personal story about how wars can affect people's lives.
"...As a soldier, I am fully aware that war always leaves deep wounds. And I cannot rest without doing everything possible to prevent them from reopening."
Personally, I remember my mother's stories about the discrimination our family suffered because of our Italian ancestry — first during World War I, under the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and then, at the end of World War II, when they were expelled from Eastern Europe. It reminds me why our work here matters...," he said.
