The Czechs are launching a new project: They are significantly increasing the speed limit on the highway

Drivers in the Czech Republic will be able to travel at speeds of up to 150 km/h on a selected section of the highway this summer.

Testing will begin on the D3 between Tabora and Ceske Budejovice, based on factors such as weather conditions and traffic density affecting the maximum permissible speed.

A tender for the supplier of the new signage is currently underway, with the Roads and Highways Directorate (ŘSD) responsible for this process. The installation of the signs will take about two months, and is expected to be completed by the end of June or beginning of July.

However, higher speeds will only be permitted under certain conditions. The time of day and traffic density will determine the permitted speed, which will be displayed on variable traffic signs, which may indicate different speed limits.

The Roads and Highways Directorate (RSD) has also identified other motorway segments in the Czech Republic where the maximum speed could be increased from 130 km/h to 150 km/h.

However, everything will depend on the results of the tests on the D3 segment. The increase in the speed limit on some motorway segments is enabled by legal changes in 2023. /Telegraph/
