Canadian Prime Minister's Davos speech in the spotlight, Trump reacts harshly

US President Donald Trump sharply criticized the Canadian prime minister when he said that Canada should be "grateful" to the US, following Mark Carney's widely praised speech at the World Economic Forum (WEF).
"We're building a golden dome that, by its very nature, will protect Canada. Canada gets a lot of free stuff from us, by the way. They should be grateful too, but they're not," Trump said in Davos, Switzerland.
Referring to Carney, Trump added: "I saw the prime minister yesterday. He wasn't very grateful."
"They should be grateful to the US. Canada lives because of the United States. Remember this Mark the next time you make your statements," he continued.

This came after Carney's speech attracted global attention, as he warned that the post-war rules-based international order was fading and said that middle powers like Canada must adapt to a world of increasing rivalry and coercion.
"The old order will not return. We should not mourn it," Carney said.
Relations between Canada and the US have been strained since Trump imposed tariffs on Canadian goods and later broke off talks over an anti-tariff ad aired in the US. /Telegraph/
