"He can't even score in training", Gasperini humiliates Atalanta star after missed penalty

Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini has harshly criticised striker Ademola Lookman after he missed a penalty in the 3-1 defeat to Club Brugge in the Champions League play-off.

Gasperini stated that Lookman was one of the worst penalty takers he had ever seen and added that Charles De Ketelaere or Mateo Retegui should have taken responsibility for taking penalties.

Lookman scored early in the second half to reduce the score to 3-1, but his penalty was saved by Brugge goalkeeper Simon Mignolet.

"Ademola Lookman is one of the worst penalty takers I've ever seen. Lookman clearly shouldn't have taken the penalty," Gasperini initially said.

"He has a very low conversion rate, even in training. He wanted to take the penalty because he had just scored."

"He took the ball even though Retegui and De Ketelaere were available to take the penalty... I didn't like it very much," concluded the Atalanta coach.

Gasperini also expressed his dissatisfaction with the red card given to captain Rafael Toloi, who was sent off for unsportsmanlike conduct.

After this defeat, Atalanta will focus on continuing the season in Serie A, where they currently sit in third place, five points behind leader Napoli. /Telegraph/
