Businesses in Macedonia are short of 40.000 workers

Around 40.000 workers are currently missing from businesses that are in crisis due to their dependence on the German economy, but also due to the crisis in Europe. This was emphasized on the Biznis 21 show by Darko Velkov from Vrabotuvanje.com and Darko Petrovski, president of the Macedonian Association for Human Resources, commenting on the state of the labor market in the country.
"I think there are 40.000 people missing at the moment. 40.000 people with concrete competencies for the processes that companies and factories carry out," said Darko Velkov.
"Employers were in a very favorable and very comfortable situation. That is, whenever they needed a worker, it was enough - I would say - to signal with one eye and immediately 50 or 100 people for a position appeared before them," emphasized Darko Petrovski, Chairman of the SHMBNJ.
Both believe that a generational shift is taking place. Young people are not as loyal as the older generations, they do not wait 5 years for a higher salary and career advancement. They say that everyone's mentality needs to change. While the responsibility for us being the penultimate in the region in terms of productivity, according to them, lies with managers.
"People have to be willing to adapt. And when they work 8 hours, they work 8 hours. And not at 9 o'clock they come, at 8 they start, at 9 they come, they have an hour and a half break and in the meantime I don't know what. They go out for cigarettes 15 times. We are probably the only nation that still drinks coffee for 1 and a half hours. How is that possible, and that during working hours. Managers are responsible for productivity and managers are responsible for what is done during the day. No one else," claimed Darko Velkov, vrabotuvanje.com.
They say there is no employer who doesn't want to retain quality staff. But the economic situation is difficult.
"We have 28 days of vacation, I think, I don't know exactly. This is a disaster for our economy. We have 20 days of annual vacation and maybe some illness. It means that it's almost 2,5 months. Which means that businessmen have to make 13 salaries for 10 months, or 9,5 months. In a small economy. This is impossible," said Darko Velkov.
Both emphasized that the announced reform in the administration must be implemented. According to them, if the government offers subsidies and training, businesses would immediately hire 40.000 workers. /TV21/
