Briton wrongly spent 38 years in prison

A British citizen has wrongly spent 38 years in prison.

Peter Sullivan, now 68, was wrongly convicted in 1987 of murdering a young woman in northwest England.

He has always denied guilt, while lawyers had previously tried to appeal the decision twice, but without success, reports theguardian.

New DNA tests revealed that Sullivan's DNA was not present in samples preserved from the crime scene.

Instead, the footprints belonged to another unknown man.

The UK Court of Appeal has thrown out the murder charges against Sullivan and he will be released from prison.

As the newspaper points out, this is considered the longest judicial error in the country's history. /Telegraph/
