British military analyst: US may leave Ukraine to Europe – they have business with China

US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth is now at NATO headquarters in Brussels for the first time.

British military analyst Sean Bell says Europe should expect the US to leave it with most of the burden for Ukraine – while Washington seeks to shift attention elsewhere.

"Hegseth has come in and said that the American priority is clearly China - he's trying to say, look, Europe, start focusing on Russia," the analyst says, writes skynews.

Hegseth is likely to echo what his boss, Donald Trump, says about the need for NATO allies to increase their contributions to spending, Bell says.

He adds that there is a view in Washington that, with US President Donald Trump's plan to "make America great again," the question is "why are we paying for this protective umbrella when other countries are not meeting the [2 percent of GDP on defense] target?"

Eight of the 32 NATO countries are failing to meet this 2 percent spending target by the middle of last year, but official data for 2024 has not yet been completed. /Telegraph/
