British Prime Minister Against the Creation of a Ministry for Men After the Drama "Adolescence": It Is Not the Solution to the Crisis of Young Men

British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has rejected the idea of creating a ministry for men in response to issues raised in the Netflix drama "Adolescence."
In an interview with BBC Radio 5 Live, he admitted he is concerned about the "crisis in masculinity" that the series addresses, but said he does not believe a new government post is the right solution.
The drama focuses on the story of a 13-year-old boy arrested for the murder of a girl and touches on the rise of incel culture, writes news.sky.

Some public figures have suggested the creation of a ministry for men, similar to the Minister for Women and Equalities, to address issues such as the negative impact of social media and the lack of positive role models for boys.
But Starmer said he was more convinced by the arguments of former England national team coach Gareth Southgate, who stressed the importance of healthy role models for young people.

"I am worried about this. I have a 16-year-old son and a 14-year-old daughter," the prime minister said.
"There's a reason this debate is so heated – because many parents and teachers realize that we have a problem with boys that we need to address."
Starmer praised Southgate's recent speech, which argued that a lack of positive leaders makes boys vulnerable to online influencers who promote harmful ideologies.
"I've been in contact with Gareth and I know him well," he said.
"I thought his message was powerful and will resonate with many parents. We can't pretend this problem doesn't exist."
Asked if a minister for men would help, he replied: "No, I don't think that's the solution. It's more important to listen to Gareth Southgate's message and take action."
Speaking about male role models, Starmer stressed that in addition to athletes and public figures, young people often look for inspiration within their own community.
“If you ask a young person, they are more likely to mention a teacher, a sports coach or someone close to them in the community,” he said. “We need to make sure these people have the right support to positively influence the younger generation.”
The United Kingdom has never had a minister for men, although some Conservative MPs, such as Nick Fletcher, have called for one to address problems such as the high rate of male suicide.
Meanwhile, the position of Minister for Women was created by former Labour Prime Minister Tony Blair to ensure that women's issues were a priority in government. /Telegraph/
