Ten people are in hospital, nine of whom are believed to have life-threatening injuries, after a knife attack on a train in Cambridgeshire, England.

Police said two people had been arrested in connection with the Saturday evening attack after a "significant" number of officers were called to Huntingdon station, where the train had made an unscheduled stop.

Authorities have not commented on the identities of those injured or arrested, or any possible motive.

British Transport Police (BTP) have declared it a "major incident" and are investigating the stabbing with the support of counter-terrorism officers.

Witness Wren Chambers said they first realised something was wrong when a man charged at the trolley with a bloody arm, saying "they have a knife, get out".

Wren and his friend then ran to the front of the train and saw a man lying on the floor.

He said they felt "stressed and quite scared" after learning what was happening.

Another eyewitness, Olly Foster, described "pure panic" on the train and said that when he first heard people shouting "run, run, there's a guy stabbing everyone", he believed it could have been a Halloween prank.

He estimated the attack lasted about 10 to 15 minutes, but said it seemed like "an eternity."

A man carrying a large knife was later seen on the train platform.

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer said the incident was deeply concerning.

"My thoughts are with all those affected and my thanks go to the emergency services for their response." /Telegraph/
