Britain is considering the possibility of exporting weapons to Kosovo

The UK Ministry of Defence is examining the possibility of exporting military equipment to Kosovo, highlighting the potential benefits for both Kosovo's security and the British defence industry.

In a written question dated 3 February 2025, David Taylor MP (Labour – Hemel Hempstead) asked the Secretary of State for Defence to provide an assessment of “the potential impact of British arms exports to Kosovo on (a) the security of Kosovo and (b) the growth of the British defence economy”.

Maria Eagle, Minister of State at the Ministry of Defence, responded on 6 February by stressing that the UK “continues to closely monitor the security situation in Kosovo”, while British forces remain “deployed in the country in support of the KFOR mission to maintain a secure and stable environment”, they announced. British media.

Eagle explained that “the UK Government is currently exploring the possibility of exporting military equipment to Kosovo”, noting that this could “help create jobs across the UK and maintain a world-class defence industrial base, while strengthening Kosovo’s security and resilience”.

She underlined that any licenses for these exports will be granted “in accordance with the UK’s Strategic Export Licensing Criteria,” ensuring that issues such as risk and impact on regional stability are carefully considered.

Eagle added: “We do not issue licenses if doing so would be contrary to the Criteria, including Criterion 4, which requires us to determine whether there is a clear risk that these devices could harm the general peace and security.”

The British Ministry of Defense says that the review of arms exports to Kosovo is part of a wider effort to support peacekeeping missions and development in the region, while safeguarding British defense and economic interests.Telegraph/
