Bread price rises in Gjakova – citizens concerned about cost of living

As announced days ago, the price of bread in Gjakova has increased.

Starting today (Friday), citizens will pay up to 0.70 euros for bread, instead of the 0.50 euros it was before.

The President of the Bakers' Association in Gjakova, Genc Fetahu, said that this increase was inevitable, due to the increase in prices of basic products used to prepare bread.

"The price of flour, electricity, labor, taxes – all have increased significantly. We had no way to avoid the increase in the price of bread. If we didn't increase it, we would be operating at a loss," Fetahu told local television. Tv Syri Vision.

He emphasized that bakers have faced a twofold increase in the prices of supplies, while adding that the decision on the new price was made in coordination with all bakers in the municipality.

Mixed reactions from citizens

The increase in the price of bread has caused numerous reactions among the citizens of Gjakova. Many of them are concerned, pointing out that the cost of living is increasing daily, while incomes remain the same.

"The increase in the price of bread, along with the increase in electricity, is affecting all products. It is becoming increasingly difficult for us," said one citizen.

Another citizen assessed the situation differently, saying that bakers are not to blame, as they have been affected by the same price increases. He also pointed out the problem of citizens wasting bread.

"We don't know the value of bread. You find it in containers. The increase is hitting pensioners and families on social assistance the most."

Citizens hope that the increase in the price of bread will not be followed by other increases in basic products, as this would further burden the family basket of consumers in Gjakova and beyond.
