President Donald Trump's former National Security Advisor, John Bolton, stated that the United States' policy of declaring "persona non grata" is not used as a tool for political gain, but is based solely on American national security interests.

Invited to the show "Off the Record" - A2CNN, Bolton emphasized that decisions on sanctions and "non grata" declarations are made on factual and geopolitical grounds, and not as a result of lobbying or internal political debates in the affected countries.

According to him, although these decisions may have local political consequences, this is not the reason that motivates the United States.

Speaking about Kosovo-Serbia relations, Bolton explained that the first Trump administration supported the idea that the parties themselves would find a permanent solution, without external imposition.

He said that the US was not against the annexation of territories, as long as there was agreement between the two countries and everything was done within the legal framework.

According to Bolton, the final solution is essential to avoid the intervention of external actors aiming to destabilize the Balkans.

Bolton assessed that the risk of instability in the Balkans remains real, especially in the context of the war in Ukraine and Russia's ambitions.

He stressed that the stability of the region is in the interest of the US and that NATO remains the main pillar of security, despite the current challenges in transatlantic relations.
