Biden will not enforce the law to ban TikTok, the fate of the app remains in Trump's hands

Outgoing US President Joe Biden last April signed a law requiring ByteDance to sell assets in the US by January 19 or face a nationwide ban.

But it is reported that Biden will not implement a ban on the TikTok app that will take effect the day before he leaves office.

Instead, he will leave the fate of the app in the hands of President-elect Donald Trump.

Trump, who once called for a ban on the app, has recently pledged to keep it available in the US, although his transition team has not said how they intend to achieve this. € news, the Telegraph reports.

Meanwhile, TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew is expected to attend Trump's inauguration, as the president-elect's national security adviser signals that the incoming administration could take steps to "save" the app.

Mike Waltz said the federal law that could ban TikTok also "allows for an extension as long as a viable deal is on the table."

Democrats had tried to pass legislation that would have extended the deadline, but Republican Senator Tom Cotton of Arkansas blocked it.

According to Cotton, chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, TikTok has had enough time to find a new owner.

"TikTok is a Chinese communist spy app that destroys our children, collects their data, targets them with harmful and manipulative content, and spreads communist propaganda," Cotton declared.

Otherwise, Trump has changed his position on the popular app, after trying to ban it during his first term in office over national security concerns. /Telegraph/
