Former US President Joe Biden praised current President Donald Trump for the work he and his administration did in reaching a "renewed" ceasefire agreement on Gaza.

Biden, who has been repeatedly criticized by Trump since taking office earlier this year, said the Middle East was on the path to peace.

"I commend President Trump and his team for their work to reach a renewed ceasefire agreement," the former president said in X. "Now, with the support of the United States and the world, the Middle East is on the path to peace that I hope will last and a future for Israelis and Palestinians alike with equal measures of peace, dignity and security."

In his post, Biden also gave his administration credit for the work it has done over the past two years following Hamas's October 7, 2023, attack on Israel.

"My administration worked tirelessly to bring the hostages home, provide aid to Palestinian civilians, and end the war," Biden said.

Under the Biden administration, former US Secretary of State Antony Blinken traveled to the Middle East several times after the October 7 attack, ultimately seeking to push both sides to accept a ceasefire, while Israel waged a relentless retaliatory offensive.

Israel and Hamas finally agreed to a ceasefire in January, before Biden left office, with Trump's incoming envoy supporting diplomacy.

But in March, Israel resumed major military operations in Gaza and closed off all food supplies, leading to dire humanitarian conditions, in which the United Nations has declared "extreme famine" in parts of the devastated Gaza Strip.Telegraph/
