Karim Benzema has released a statement on social media following his controversial transfer from Al Ittihad to Al Hilal, a move that reportedly prompted Cristiano Ronaldo to go on strike at Al Nassr.

Benzema signed with Al Hilal on the final day of the transfer window (February 2), having recorded 54 goals and 17 assists for his former club, Al Ittihad, since joining from Real Madrid in 2023.

Al Hilal currently lead the Saudi Super League, just one point ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo's Al Nassr after 19 matches played in the league.

The 38-year-old's arrival is said to have irritated Ronaldo, who, according to Sky News, is suspected of going on strike ahead of his team's 1-0 win over Al Riyadh on Monday.

Ronaldo's dissatisfaction is reportedly linked to the way the club is being managed, with the five-time Ballon d'Or winner feeling that other clubs in Saudi Arabia, backed by the Public Investment Fund (PIF), are being treated preferentially in the transfer market.

Despite Ronaldo's alleged stance, Benzema will play for Al Hilal and is expected to significantly boost the club's chances of winning the Saudi Super League title for the 2025/26 season.

After confirming his transfer from Al Hilal, Benzema took to social media to thank the club's staff, fans and now former teammates.

"Al Ittihad, this chapter is closing, but respect and gratitude will always remain."

"Thank you to the club, the staff, my teammates and above all the fans for the welcome, the love and the energy you gave me every day."

"This path has given me a lot, both personally and professionally. I leave with my head held high, proud to have worn these colors and for everything we have shared together. I wish you all the best for the future," Benzema wrote.Telegrafi/
