Benitez gives two reasons why he thinks Inter can win the treble this season

Former Inter and Napoli coach Rafael Benitez has explained why he believes the Nerazzurri are capable of winning the treble this season.

Inter is one of seven teams in Europe that has yet to win the treble (league, cup and Champions League).

Simone Inzaghi's men are the only Italians still remaining in the Champions League, a competition they are likely to win given their fantastic defensive record.

They are also leading Serie A by a point over Antonio Conte's Napoli with 11 games left to play.

Inter will also face Milan in the semi-finals of the Coppa Italia and are currently favourites to win the competition, despite having lost twice and drawn once against the Rossoneri this season.

"Points first because they are first in the championship, even if they are only one point behind Napoli, who together with Atalanta and now Juventus are difficult opponents."

"Also because they are favourites in the Coppa Italia, despite the danger from the two semi-final matches. Finally, because they are showing fantastic consistency in the Champions League," said Benitez.

He has also noticed two specific signs that he believes are extremely encouraging for Inzaghi.

"They never concede goals. They practically never put their opponents in a position to shoot on goal. One goal conceded (in the Champions League) is a testament to the strength of the group."

"Secondly, even without Dimarco, Calhangollu and Mkhitaryan, the level of performance does not drop and the personality remains very high. The fear that the absences could have an impact on the performance was removed by the way they achieved the results," he concluded.Telegraph/
