Bayern Munich's 'secret plan' for Thomas Muller revealed

Bayern Munich reportedly have a secret plan for club legend Thomas Muller as he nears the end of his contract.

The striker's deal is set to expire this summer and he was expected to sign a contract extension to keep him at the German giants for another year.

However, it was reported on Tuesday that Bayern have withdrawn their contract offer after Muller was told he was earning too much.

The 35-year-old has been used sparingly this season by manager Vincent Kompany, and it has been decided that Bayern cannot afford to keep him on his €17m-a-season wage - one of the highest in the first team.

But Bayern still want to keep Muller involved with the club in some capacity, and it is understood they have come up with a plan that could work for all parties.

According to Bild, there is a lot of interest in Muller from the US, and Bayern could look to send Muller to their MLS partner club, LAFC.

If Muller were to make this move, he would become Bayern's ambassador to the US and increase their appeal in the state.

Muller made his Bayern debut in 2009 and has made 742 appearances for the Bundesliga leaders. He has scored 247 goals during that period. /Telegraph/
