Barcelona star surprises everyone with his reaction to Alvarez's cancelled penalty

There has been much discussion in Spain this week after Julian Alvarez's penalty was overturned by VAR in the match against Real Madrid, on the grounds that he had touched the ball twice. 

The decision caused a lot of discontent in the Atletico Madrid camp, who believe they have been betrayed by VAR. 

These feelings will also prevail when Atletico Madrid face Barcelona on Sunday, in what promises to be a fiery duel in the context of the title race. 

Speaking to the media before this match, Barcelona midfielder Gavi was asked about the Alvarez penalty case.

The Spanish representative was diplomatic with his response and did not want to comment on whether it was the right decision or not. 

"I don't want to get involved. The referees are the ones who decide and they know the rules. I don't know how it works, but whatever the referees decide, we have to trust it." 

"I don't know exactly how this works, but I would do it like this: if he touches it twice, then I would repeat the penalty, but I don't know and let the referees decide," Gavi said. 

It seems that Gavi implied that the referee should have at least allowed Alvarez to take the penalty again. 

However, the goal scored by the Argentine was ultimately disallowed, paving the way for Real Madrid to secure qualification to the quarter-finals.Telegraph/
