Barcelona open to four big summer departures

Barcelona are reportedly preparing for a summer transfer window with important decisions to make, with several high-profile players facing uncertain futures at the club.

According to the newspaper Sport, sporting director, Deco, is actively meeting with agents to discuss both future transfers and potential departures, as the Catalan side look to re-shape the squad under new coach Hansi Flick.

The club is said to be prioritising strategic sales to generate funds, with Deco making it clear in recent meetings that the club “must sell to buy.” While no players have been officially placed on the transfer list, Barcelona are said to be open to listening to offers for several squad members who are not guaranteed starters next season.

Among those mentioned as possible departures are Ronald Araujo, Frenkie de Jong, Gavi and Ansu Fati. Others such as Inaki Pena, Hector Fort, Fermin Lopez, Pablo Torre and Pau Victor are also under consideration if suitable offers arrive.

The situation surrounding De Jong remains key. The Dutch midfielder has yet to agree a new contract and, if talks stall, Barcelona may be forced to evaluate offers rather than risk losing him later.

Meanwhile, Ansu Fati is another name that could be sold to raise funds, especially if interest returns from the Premier League or Saudi Arabia.

Despite their potential, the club admits that not all players can be retained due to squad size and financial constraints. Saudi Arabian clubs are said to be preparing substantial offers for some of these players, which could tempt both Barcelona and the individuals involved.

Only Lamine Yamal is said to be considered untouchable in the current squad, with Deco open to negotiations involving almost everyone else – provided the offers are substantial enough. The aim is to reinvest in high-level signings while maintaining a competitive squad.

Barcelona are also working to finalise renewals, particularly for De Jong and Raphinha. Both cases remain open, although there is more optimism about De Jong's contract extension. Raphinha has attracted interest from Saudi Arabia, with a club believed to have made him a career-defining offer.

The club expects to make at least one major sale this summer, depending on the progress of negotiations and whether the players are open to new challenges abroad. /Telegraph/
