Barcelona are worried, their star is injured during duty with Spain

Barcelona star Pau Cubarsi has suffered an injury while on duty with Spain in La Roja's 2-2 draw in the Nations League in the Netherlands.

Nico Williams scored early in Rotterdam, but the Dutch responded with two goals, before Mikel Merino scored the equalizer late on.

A draw sets up a second battle in Valencia on Sunday night with both teams vying to reach the final series in June.

Cubarsi was forced off shortly before the end of the first half after suffering an ankle injury following a heavy tackle from Memphis Depay.

Spain and Barcelona fans were immediately concerned by the sight of Cubars, who was helped off the field by Spain's medical staff.

He was replaced by Dean Huijsen and coach Luis De la Fuente confirmed a sprained ankle with his participation in the second match in doubt.

"It's his ankle, it's a sprain. We want to try to get him back by Sunday and we'll see how it goes in the next few days."

"It doesn't seem too serious, but there are only a few days left to recover, we have to be careful," De La Fuente told Marca.

De la Fuente is expected to provide an update on the situation in the next 48 hours, following tests for Cubars, with Mario Gila already called up as a backup option. /Telegraph/
