The Electricity Regulatory Office of Kosovo (ERO) announced on Friday that it has proposed increasing the price of electricity in the country by about 15 percent next month.
LDK MP Hykmete Bajrami reacted to this. In a Facebook post, she accused Prime Minister Albin Kurti, saying that during his government, the largest increase in energy prices in Kosovo's history is taking place, reports Telegrafi.
"Now ERO is proposing another 15% increase from April 1, 2025. What does this mean for your bills? The April 2025 bill for the same amount of energy will be 15% higher than the April 2024 bill, and this increase is not the only one," Bajrami claimed.
She explained that by decision of ERO, KESCO has initiated procedures to force all companies with over 50 employees or turnover over 10 million euros per year to enter the open market.
"Why is this a problem? Because this means a multiple increase in the price of energy for these businesses, taking into account the fact that after entering the open market, these businesses will be supplied with energy mainly from imports, at much higher tariffs, since based on the distribution privatization contract, KEK is obliged to initially supply KEDS/KESCO, leaving the businesses at the mercy of the open market and import prices," she added.
She further stated that "After all this, the decision to increase tariffs by another 15% is completely absurd, because: as large businesses leave KESCO, the demand for energy decreases, which logically should lead to a reduction in tariffs, but ERO ignores this fact and decides on another 15% tariff increase."
"Today the question is: who are these policies serving? It is crystal clear that the beneficiaries here are only KEDS/KESCO and the energy traders led by Martin Berishaj."
"What about citizens? They will pay 15% more for bills from April 1. They will cover the higher energy price for businesses through increased prices of products and services. So, the Government/ERO increases spending, businesses increase prices and citizens pay more and not only for energy", she emphasized. /Telegrafi/
