BMW M models record sales, electric model is the best-selling

M has become a key part of BMW's business in 2024, accounting for 9.4 percent of all BMW vehicles sold in the last 12 months.

For the first time in its history, the M exceeded 200,000 units delivered the year before, reaching 202,530 cars sold, and surpassed this figure in 2024 with 206,582 registrations, an increase of 2 percent compared to the previous year, reports Telegraph.

Although some may be surprised or even disappointed, the most popular model during that successful period was the electric car.

The best-selling M model was the all-electric i4 M50, a four-door coupe with 537 horsepower that reaches 100 mph in just 3.7 seconds.

The good news for die-hard M fans is that the original M models with internal combustion engines have seen a huge increase, securing their place in the lineup.

BMW distinguishes M models like the M340i, X7 M60i, and i4 M50 from high-performance models like the M2, M3, and M5.

Sales of the M2 model, which recently had its power boosted from 453 to 473 horsepower, rose by 64 percent, while the M3 Touring saw a 57 percent increase.

Total sales of high-performance models rose 8 percent, to 66,805 units, compared to an overall increase of 4 percent for M models.

These figures are expected to increase further during 2025, when the new M5 and M5 Touring hybrids arrive in showrooms.

Even the XM, an SUV that many M fans don't like, had a good year according to BMW. Sales of the plug-in hybrid SUV grew 16 percent in 2024.

However, given that the model did not go on sale until the second quarter of 2023, it is possible that this data is not fully representative.

Last year, in its first full year of sales in the US, XM sales fell 14.7 percent, with just 1,974 units sold despite heavy discounts. /Telegraph/
