Avoiding new elections, Murati gives the proposal just before the constitutive sessions begin

Acting Minister of Finance, Hekuran Murati, spoke about the situation created for the constitution of the Parliament.

Murati says that the verification of mandates was put to a vote and was rejected as a result of the votes of PDK, LDK, AAK, and the Serbian List, reports Telegrafi.

"It seems to me that some still do not understand what the opposition did on April 15. The report on the verification of mandates on April 15 was put to a vote, and was rejected as a result of the votes of PDK, LDK, AAK, and the Serbian List. An issue on which the Assembly has the decision-making power cannot be put to a re-vote. The vote has been used up," he explained.

Murati further added that "the issue is put to a revote only if the first time there was no quorum for decision-making, as was the case in 2014, with only 44 MPs participating in the vote the first time."

"After this catastrophic decision by the opposition, decision-making in the Assembly is blocked in front of an insurmountable wall. The deputies cannot take the oath because they have refused to verify their mandates," he stressed.

Murati said that such a rejection like this from opposition parties has never happened.

He has made a suggestion on how to get through this situation, so that there are no new elections.

"Practically, this means that the deputies have rejected the mandate, and the process must return to ground zero - that is, a new electoral process that produces a new legislature that, in effect, accepts the mandate given by the people."

"The only other way to avoid the scenario of new elections is a unanimous political agreement, where only the deputies who have rejected the mandate with their vote, withdraw and give their place to other colleagues from the same entity. A similar thing happened in the legislature we left behind with the deputies of the Serbian List," he declared.
