Atletico Madrid president 'explodes' at VAR after Alvarez's penalty is cancelled

Atletico Madrid are still recovering from their Champions League elimination to Real Madrid on Wednesday. 

They were eliminated from this competition after being defeated 4-2 on penalties in a controversial penalty shootout where Julian Alvarez's penalty was overturned by VAR for touching the ball with two feet. 

Diego Simeone is still angry about the incident days after it happened, as is the club's president, Enrique Cerezo. 

He angrily addressed VAR, which he claims has never been in his favor. Diario AS.

"By Wednesday evening we were ready for three competitions: the Champions League, the Copa del Rey and La Liga."

"I don't like VAR, but it's not because I'm saying it now, I've always said it." 

"I don't criticize VAR just for the mistake in that match, because it's not a mistake by the referee, it's a mistake by VAR, for which I don't know where they saw that the ball was touched twice by the player's foot." 

"VAR is a tool of conflict, which is not safe and above all, we all believe that it was brought in to make football fairer and I believe that they have brought it in to make it more unfair," Cerezo said.Telegraph/
