"At the funeral of the Pope of Peace," the Italian Prime Minister comments on the Trump-Zelensky meeting

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni commented on the meeting between US President Donald Trump and his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky.

The American and Ukrainian leaders met during the funeral of Pope Francis, where leaders from around the world were also gathered, including Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani and acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti.

"That moment, where Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky are talking about peace at the funeral of the Pope of Peace, has such great meaning," she said.

"Today was a historic day," she wrote on platform X next to an image of Pope Francis with the inscription "For God."

There was no second meeting between Trump and Zelensky due to the busy schedules of both leaders, the Ukrainian president's office said.

However, he has held separate talks with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron.

Otherwise, Trump and Zelensky are expected to meet in the coming weeks to sign the agreement on Ukraine's rare minerals. /Telegraph/
