Arifi: Kurti does not want to govern

Dritëro Arifi, a professor of political science, considers the created blockade that is preventing the constitution of the Kosovo Assembly as a "profound lack of political will to resolve this issue."

The first question, according to Arifi, in the current situation, is whether there is a winning party or only a leading party.

"Is there a winning party, it's a big question mark and it turns out that no, is there a leading party, yes. And this leading party, which is Vetëvendosje, doesn't have the numbers to elect a Speaker of Parliament," Arifi said on the show "Kallxo Përnime".

The failure to change the proposal by the LVV for candidate Albulena Haxhiu for the position of Speaker of the Parliament, according to the political science professor, is turning out to be meaningless.

"It is up to the first party to first find a communication channel with the other parties on how to move forward, but it has been evident since February 9 that Mr. Kurti has no desire to govern, because he has not even presented a platform," Arifi declared.

The party that came first in the February 9, 2025 elections, the Vetëvendosje Movement, has proposed MP Albulena Haxhiu for Speaker of the Kosovo Assembly several times in a row. However, Haxhiu did not receive more than 57 votes, failing to be elected Speaker.

On the other hand, other parties have warned that Albulena Haxhiu's name will not be voted on.

Today, on 27.04.2025, the seventh constitutive session took place, and the proposed candidate of the Vetëvendosje Movement (LVV), Albulena Haxhiu, again failed to receive enough votes for Speaker of Parliament.

Even though they are meeting every 48 hours, the MPs are continuing with the same positions, successive declarations, but without any solution for the country to get out of this blockade.
