Apple with a new feature for the iPhone 17 Pro – many users will love it

According to the latest reports, Apple has likely canceled the implementation of the anti-reflective layer on the screens of the upcoming iPhone 17 Pro models.

This feature, which has already been introduced by Samsung on the Galaxy S24 Ultra models, would be a significant improvement for iPhone users, but it seems that the tech giant is currently unable to produce enough screens of this advanced type.

Reports from last year indicated that Apple had invested billions of dollars in equipment from Japan, which would be shipped to China and integrated into the iPhone supply chain.

This investment was intended to produce glass covers with “ultra-strong” anti-reflective coatings, which would be much more scratch-resistant than existing models. However, according to reliable sources to MacRumors, the process of applying this coating is very slow and cannot be applied to all iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max models that the company plans to produce this year.

Technology that already exists in other Apple products

Apple already offers nano-textured displays for the iPad Pro and MacBook Pro, which significantly reduce reflections, but they are optional and come at an additional cost. Reducing reflections is especially important for devices with large screens like tablets and laptops.

On the other hand, Samsung continues to use anti-reflective technology on its high-end Galaxy S phones. However, it should be noted that Samsung does not sell as many Galaxy S Ultra units as Apple sells for the iPhone Pro and Pro Max models combined, which makes it easier for Samsung to apply this technology – if the technical process is similar.

The future of the iPhone without anti-reflective coating?

It remains to be seen whether Apple will attempt to implement this technology in the iPhone 18 models, which wouldn't be surprising considering the competition. But even if this feature were to become available for the iPhone 17 Pro, some users might not be able to take advantage of it.

The upcoming iPhone 17 Air model, considered a mid-range model, is not expected to have an anti-reflective screen, but will bring support for 120Hz refresh rate, which also represents a significant improvement.

For users who already use plastic or glass screen protectors, the additional scratch resistance may not be crucial, but the reduction in reflection would be a welcome improvement, especially for daily use of the phone in brightly lit environments. /Telegraph/
