Ancelotti reveals Real Madrid's mistake that cost them the final defeat to Barcelona

Carlo Ancelotti has admitted that small mistakes cost Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey final which ended with a 3-2 scoreline to Barcelona.

'Los Blancos' came back from a 1-0 deficit, thanks to second-half goals from Kylian Mbappe and Aurelien Tchouameni, but Ferran Torres' goal sent the match into extra time.

As it looked like both teams were heading for penalties, Jules Kounde struck a powerful shot from outside the area to give his team the Copa del Rey trophy.

Real Madrid will now aim to follow Barcelona in the race for the La Liga title, where the latter currently have a four-point lead with five games left to play, including 'El Clasico' on May 11.

Ancelotti was pragmatic in his assessment of Real Madrid's defeat in Sevilla, adding that a misunderstanding between Luka Modric and Brahim Diaz led to Kounde's goal.

"Was it Modric's or Brahim's mistake? Brahim thought Luka would pass the ball to his foot and not forward."

"Kounde then shoots quickly and powerfully towards the goal. These are small details that sometimes don't cost you and sometimes cost you a lot," Ancelotti said.

"Overall, I think we had the game under control, but they were able to play with the balls behind us and that's where it made things complicated for them, especially for their second goal."

"We have to fight because we gave everything, we competed well and there is nothing to complain about," the Italian concluded.Telegraph/
