Skipping Messi, Marcelo reveals which Barcelona player made his 'life miserable' every time they faced each other
Real Madrid legend Marcelo recently decided to announce his retirement from football at the age of 36.
After the decision, he had a long interview on the Spanish show 'El Hormiguero' where he discussed a variety of topics.
A key question Marcelo was asked was to find out which Barcelona player he feared playing against the most or considered his toughest opponent.
Surprisingly, he decided against appointing Lionel Messi in this regard and instead chose Carles Puyol.
He stated: "I remember playing, I went to dribble and then Puyol appeared."
"I thought I was close to the ball, he wouldn't reach it and take it. But from a distance, he reached it and jumped. If I hadn't raised my foot... it would have been over."
Puyol is an icon for Barcelona and Spain, having played 682 times for the Catalan club, scoring 25 goals and providing 14 assists. /Telegraph/
