The Americans present a battery for electric vehicles with record charging speed!

A new electric vehicle battery developed by California-based Amprius Technologies has a silicon anode and can reach 90 percent charge in 15 minutes.

The company sent cell samples to the United States Advanced Battery Consortium (USABC), an organization of American automakers created to improve battery technology.

Amprius Technology, which previously supplied fast-charging battery packs to the aerospace and light vehicle markets, is now moving into the electric vehicle sector.

These cells can reach 80 percent charge in less than six minutes. The A-cells supplied by Amprius have a high specific energy of 360 Wh/kg and a power density of 1200 W/kg.

When they become commercially available, these cells will allow much greater range than current batteries offer. The company is also working on achieving 1000 charge cycles with its batteries. In addition to working in temperatures varying from -30 degrees Celsius to 55 degrees, the battery also passed the nail penetration test, demonstrating superior safety.

Amprius' batteries use lithium-ion cells, the most energy-dense solution available today, but by a small margin. Instead of graphite in the anode, the company uses silicon, which gives 10 times more energy capacity and a much better life cycle.

Amprius has already secured 500 MWh of contracted generation capacity to meet customer demands, the press release added. /Telegraph/
